RESCUE Naga (ERN) is the city's emergency rescue service. It works
with 23 government and non-government organizations and serves as
an excellent model of effective community resource mobilization.
ERN provides quality and appropriate emergency response/pre-hospital
care from first aid to transporting victims, in order to alleviate
human suffering and save lives.
This award-winning program was inspired by Rescue 911 and optimizes
the in-house capabilities of the Naga City Hospital—which
serves as ERN's headquarters and operations center—in responding
to the needs of its clientele, particularly in accessing quality,
quick-response services at any hour of the day.
EMERGENCY RESCUE CATEGORIES
ERN responds to 2 emergency categories:
• MEDICAL EMERGENCIES - this
involves the usual medical emergencies from domestic traumas/accidents
and sudden attacks of illnesses when first aid and transport to
a medical facility is needed. Immediate response is within the capabilities
of the Naga City Hospital ambulance service. When required, the
city hospital may request assistance form other auxiliary services.
• RESCUE/EXTRICATION - this involves vehicular accidents with
multiple casualties and Special Rescue Operations such as water
rescue and mountain search and rescue. For these, manpower and resources
are needed at the scene. During this type of emergency, an Incident
Command System (ICS) is followed to establish order and coordination
of efforts among different responding groups.
The auxiliary services of the Philippine
National Police or the sub-station within the incident area; the
Emergency Medical Services and Special Rescue Unit of the Naga City
Fire Station; and radio groups and NGO volunteers are activated
when there is a need for additional manpower.
